Healthy chocolate mousse

Cacao in its raw form is a superfood, packed with magnesium and chemicals that make us feel good. If you can’t get the raw cacao (either from grinding your own cacao beans, or buying as raw cacao powder), use the best quality 100% cocoa powder that you can find.

This recipe is in my “Healthy Sweet Treats” handout that I give to my clients. There is no reason why you should stop eating delicious desserts, as long as you know how to make healthy ones. This chocolate mousse tastes wonderful and is packed with nutrition. The avocado thickens and adds the rich texture, the banana gives some extra softness and sweetness, the orange juice provides a little liquid for blending and tastes wonderful with the chocolate. There is only a little dash of natural sweetener, which is balanced out by the adding of some protein powder. Adding protein slows down sugar release into your bloodstream.

Ingredients

  • 1 avocado
  • 1 banana
  • Juice from half an orange
  • A dash of agave syrup or honey
  • 6-8 teaspoons of 100% cocoa/cacao powder
  • A scoop of quality protein powder
  • Method
    1. Blend all ingredients together in a blender, slowly squeezing in the orange juice to soften.
    2. Place in a lovely glass bowl and pop into the fridge for min 30 minutes.
    3. Enjoy!
Tip: can be frozen for later. Tastes delicious with raspberries on top, or blended in.
